Wedding Season SEO: How Local Businesses Get Found by Families
By Neha
Wedding season SEO means getting your business found on Google in the weeks when families are booking caterers, decorators, makeup artists, photographers, halls and sweets for a wedding. For most local businesses it comes down to four things: a complete Google Business Profile, one clear wedding page on your website, fresh reviews from recent weddings, and posts that show what you offer this season.
Wedding work is booked early and in large amounts. One family may book a caterer, a decorator and a mehendi artist in the same week, often weeks or months before the date, and they compare several options on their phone before they call anyone. If your business is not visible while they compare, you miss the booking, not just a visit.
This guide is for owners of wedding-related businesses, and for the agencies who look after them. Start this week: the changes take a few weeks to show in Google.
Short answer: Update your Google Business Profile first (categories, wedding services with price ranges, recent photos, an offer post). Then add one wedding page to your website for your city, with packages, capacity, areas and real prices. Ask every family you served for a review, and post an update every week of the season. Use the words families actually type, including Hinglish ones like "shaadi ke liye halwai".
When does wedding season start, and when should you prepare?
There is no single national date. Wedding dates in India depend on community, region and the auspicious dates (muhurat) each family follows. In much of north and west India, a busy stretch commonly runs from after Diwali through the winter, with another in the summer months, but the pattern differs in the south, the east and between communities. Check a local panchang or simply look at your own bookings from last year.
What matters for search is that families plan ahead. They search for halls, caterers and photographers well before the wedding month, and for makeup, mehendi and sweets closer to the date. So your Google presence needs to be ready before your busiest month, not during it.
A practical rule: start the changes in this guide six to eight weeks before your first big booking period. Google needs time to read a new page, and reviews and photos build up week by week. If the season has already started, do the profile and review steps first. They show results fastest.
What do families search for during wedding season?
Families search for a service, a place and often a price, usually on a phone. Typical searches look like these (examples, not measured volumes):
| Business | What families type |
|---|---|
| Caterer | wedding caterer in Lucknow, halwai for shaadi near me, catering per plate rate |
| Banquet hall | banquet hall in Pune for 300 guests, marriage hall near me with rooms |
| Decorator / tent house | wedding decorator in Jaipur, tent house near me, mandap decoration price |
| Makeup artist | bridal makeup artist near me, HD bridal makeup price in Delhi |
| Mehendi artist | mehendi artist for wedding near me, bridal mehendi rate |
| Photographer | wedding photographer in Indore, candid photography package price |
| Sweet shop | shaadi mithai order, wedding sweet box price, kaju katli 1 kg rate |
Three patterns repeat. Families add the city or "near me", they ask about price, and many type in Hinglish. The Near Me Keyword Finder lists the "near me", city and area phrases customers use for a business like yours. The Hinglish Keyword Finder shows how people actually spell what you sell, including words like "shaadi", "halwai" and "ka rate". Our guide to Hindi and regional language SEO explains how to use them on your pages without stuffing.
Step 1: Get your Google Business Profile wedding-ready
For searches with a city or "near me", Google usually shows a map with three businesses above the normal results. Those come from Google Business Profiles, so this is the most valuable hour you will spend.
- Check your categories. Pick the main category that matches what you are known for (for example Caterer, Banquet hall, Wedding photographer or Make-up artist), and add others only if you really offer them.
- Add wedding services with price ranges. "Wedding catering, veg, from ₹450 a plate" is more useful than "Catering". Families filter by budget.
- Add recent photos. Real setups, plates, mandaps and bridal looks from this year. Get the family's permission before you post photos of people.
- Update hours and phone numbers. Many wedding businesses work late in season. Make sure the number on Google is answered.
- Answer common questions in your description: capacity, areas you travel to, advance booking time.
The Google Listing Scorecard scores your profile out of 100 from your answers and lists what to fix first. Our guide to Google Business Profile optimization covers each field in detail.
Step 2: Post offers and updates every week
Google Business Profile lets you publish three kinds of posts. Google's help page on posts describes updates ("Share info about your business"), offers ("Provide promotional sales or deals from your business"), which need a title and dates, and events, which need start and end dates.
For wedding season, use them like this:
- Offer: "Book wedding catering before 30 November and get the sangeet snacks counter free." Add the dates and terms so families know it is real.
- Update: a photo of a recent setup with one line on what the package includes and the price range.
- Event: an open day at your banquet hall, or a bridal makeup trial weekend, with the exact dates.
Post once a week through the season. The Google Post Planner drafts four posts for a month, one a week, with the festivals that fall in it, the right button for each, and a photo idea. Our list of Google Business Profile post ideas has more examples.
Step 3: Add one wedding page to your website
If your website has one "Services" page that lists everything, Google has little to match a search like "wedding caterer in Lucknow". Give the wedding work its own page.
A strong wedding page includes:
- A clear title and heading with the service and city, such as "Wedding Catering in Lucknow | Sharma Caterers".
- Packages with price ranges, per plate or per event, and what each includes.
- Capacity and logistics: how many guests, whether you travel, how far, and how early families should book.
- Real photos from weddings you served, with short captions.
- Questions families ask on the phone, answered in a short FAQ: tasting, advance payment, cancellation, Jain or no-onion menus.
- A clear way to enquire: phone, WhatsApp button and a short form.
One strong city page usually beats ten thin area pages. If you serve several cities and want a page for each, the Service Area Page Planner turns your services and areas into a page plan, and warns you when pages would only differ by the city name. Our guide to ranking for "near me" searches explains why copied area pages often fail.
Step 4: Collect reviews from every wedding
Reviews carry a lot of weight in wedding work, because families are trusting you with one day that cannot be repeated. They read reviews carefully, and they look for recent ones.
Ask for a review within a few days of the event, while the family is still happy and sharing photos. Send a direct link on WhatsApp so they do not have to search for you. The Google Review Link Generator turns your listing into a short link that opens the review box straight away.
Make the request specific: "If you liked the food at Riya's wedding, a short review on Google would really help us." Families often mention the dishes, the decor or the staff by name, and those details help other families decide. Reply to every review, thanking them and mentioning the event. Our guide on how to get more Google reviews covers what Google allows and what it does not, such as offering discounts for reviews.
Step 5: Be listed where families compare
Families do not only use Google. Many browse wedding directories and marketplaces such as WedMeGood and WeddingWire India, and general directories like Justdial. These listings can bring enquiries directly, and they also show up in Google searches for your business name.
Keep your business name, address and phone number exactly the same on every listing as on your Google Business Profile. Small differences make it harder for customers and for Google to tell they are the same business. Our guide to citation building in India lists which directories are worth the time.
Most wedding enquiries end up on WhatsApp, so make that step easy too. The WhatsApp Catalogue Maker turns your packages into a neat message with names and ₹ prices that you can send the moment a family asks "rate kya hai?".
A six-week wedding season SEO plan
| Week | What to do |
|---|---|
| 1 | Update Google Business Profile: categories, services with prices, hours, 10 recent photos |
| 2 | Write or rewrite your wedding page for your city; add an FAQ and enquiry buttons |
| 3 | Publish your first offer post; send review links to families from last season |
| 4 | Check directory listings match your Google profile; add your packages on WhatsApp |
| 5 | Post a photo update; reply to every new review |
| 6 | Post an event or second offer; check Search Console for which searches bring visitors |
Keep posting weekly and asking for reviews through the season. When it ends, note which searches and posts brought enquiries, so next year you start earlier with what worked.
Frequently asked questions
When should I start wedding season SEO?
Six to eight weeks before your busiest booking period. Families book halls, caterers and photographers well in advance, and Google needs a few weeks to show new pages and reviews. If the season has started, update your Google Business Profile and ask for reviews first.
Do I need a website, or is a Google Business Profile enough?
For searches with a city or "near me", the map results come from Google Business Profiles, so start there. A website with a dedicated wedding page helps you appear for longer searches like "wedding caterer in Lucknow for 500 guests" and gives families packages and prices to compare before they call.
Should I put prices on Google and my website?
Yes, as ranges or starting prices. Families compare on budget first, and a clear starting price (for example, "from ₹450 a plate") filters out enquiries that will never book. You can still give a final quote after you know the menu and guest count.
Can I post photos of the bride and family?
Only with their permission. Many families are happy to share, especially if you credit them, but ask first and respect a no. Photos of setups, food, decor and venues without people are safe to post any time.
How do I rank for "near me" searches in wedding season?
Keep your Google Business Profile complete and active, with the right category, your real address or service area, recent photos and reviews. Google says local results are based mainly on relevance, distance and prominence (how well known the business is). You cannot change distance, but a complete profile, reviews and regular posts help with the other two.
