Common questions

How many pages does it check?

Up to 25 pages on the free plan, and 50, 100 or 200 on the Starter, Pro and Agency plans. We start at your home page and use your sitemap and your own links to find the rest, so the pages that matter most are read first.

Is this the same as Google's own tools?

No. Search Console shows you what Google already knows about a site you own. This checks any site from the outside, including a competitor's, and explains what it finds in plain language.

Will this slow my website down?

No. We read your pages a few at a time, once, identify ourselves as UpgrowlyBot, and obey your robots.txt.

How often should I run it?

After you make changes, and once a month otherwise. Running it more often mostly shows noise โ€” and we show you what changed since last time, which is more useful than the score alone.

How is the score worked out?

We run about 50 checks in six groups and score each group out of 100: Google basics (30% of the total), contact and location details on your website (20%), speed (15%), phone-friendliness (15%), security (12%) and social sharing (8%). Each check carries a weight; a problem costs all of it if critical, 85% if high and 60% if medium. Checks we could not run are left out rather than counted against you. 85 or more is an A, 70 a B, 55 a C, 40 a D, and below that an F.

What does the score not tell me?

It measures how well your website is built for Google and for customers, read from the outside. It does not measure your rankings, your visitors, links from other websites, or your Google Business Profile and reviews โ€” use the Google Listing Scorecard for those. Speed comes from one Google test and can vary from run to run. A high score makes ranking easier; it does not guarantee it.
