Free SEO Tools for Small Business in India (2026)

By Neha

You do not need a ₹10,000-a-month software subscription to get your business found on Google. The most useful SEO tools for a small business are free, and several of them are made by Google itself. The hard part is knowing which one does what, so you are not signing up for ten dashboards you never open.

This guide lists the free SEO tools for small business owners in India that we think are worth your time in 2026, grouped by the job they do. For each one you get what it is best for and what the free version really allows, checked against the maker's own pages as of October 2026. Some of the tools are ours. We have put them where they fit, not at the top.

Short answer: Start with three free Google tools: Search Console to see how Google finds your site, Business Profile for your Maps listing, and Analytics to measure visitors. Add Bing Webmaster Tools, PageSpeed Insights and Ahrefs' free plan for your own site. Use Upgrowly's free website audit, Google listing scorecard and Search Console reports when you want the findings explained in plain words with a clear fix list.

Which free SEO tools does a small business actually need?

Most businesses need four kinds of tool: one to get found, one to fix the website, one for the Google listing and one to measure results. You do not need every tool below. Pick one from each group and use it regularly.

A note on words: "indexed" means Google has read and saved a page so it can show it in results, and "impressions" means the number of times your site appeared in someone's search results, whether or not they clicked.

Get found: Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools

Google Search Console is the one tool every website owner should set up first. It is Google telling you, for free, how it sees your site.

Google Search Console shows which searches your site appeared for, how many people clicked, which pages Google has indexed and which it has left out, and why. Google describes it as a free service, and it keeps data for the last 16 months. You must prove you own the website before you see anything, which takes about ten minutes. Our Google Search Console guide walks you through it.

Best for: seeing your real searches and clicks, and finding pages Google cannot index. Limit: only works for sites you own, and it uses terms like "impressions" and "CTR" without much explanation.

Bing Webmaster Tools does a similar job for Bing. It is free, and you can import your sites straight from Google Search Console, which verifies them automatically. Its keyword research tool shows Bing search volumes, and its backlinks report shows a representative sample of sites linking to you, not a complete list.

Best for: free keyword volumes and a free look at your links. Limit: the numbers are for Bing, which is far smaller than Google in India.

Fix the website: audits and speed tests

An audit tool reads your website the way a search engine does and lists what is getting in the way. Here you have three good free options, and they suit different people.

Ahrefs Free (the plan formerly called Ahrefs Webmaster Tools) is the most powerful free audit if you own the site. According to Ahrefs' free plan page, it gives 5,000 crawl credits per verified project per month, roughly one credit per working page, and shows up to 1,000 of your backlinks and keywords at once. It only works on sites you have verified, and its reports use professional SEO terms.

Upgrowly's website audit reads up to 25 pages of any website, including a competitor's, with no sign-up. It checks titles, headings, mobile setup, speed, structured data and business details, then explains each problem in plain words and puts the most important fix first. The free limit is three audits a day. It does not show rankings, traffic, backlinks or keyword search volumes.

PageSpeed Insights is Google's own speed test. It loads your page in a test using Lighthouse and adds real-visitor data from Chrome users where Google has enough of it, including the three Core Web Vitals: how fast the main content appears, how quickly the page reacts to a tap, and how much it jumps while loading. Upgrowly's PageSpeed checker runs the same Google test and explains the fixes in plain words, with three fresh tests a day free.

If your site is large and you own it, use Ahrefs Free. If you want a quick, readable fix list, or need to check a site you do not own, use the Upgrowly audit. Our guide on how to do an SEO audit for free shows how to work through the results.

Look after your local listing: Google Business Profile

For a shop, clinic or salon, the free Google Business Profile often brings more customers than the website. It is the listing that appears on Google Maps and in local results.

Google Business Profile lets you manage how your business appears on Search and Maps at no charge. Only businesses that meet customers face to face, at a location or by visiting them, are eligible, so a purely online shop cannot have one. Inside it you can add photos, hours, services and posts, reply to reviews and see how many people called or asked for directions.

Best for: being found by people nearby. Limit: it does not tell you what is missing or what to fix first.

That gap is where Upgrowly's Google listing scorecard fits. You answer 26 Yes or No questions about your listing and get a score out of 100 with a fix list, ordered by what matters most. It does not read your listing automatically; it works from your answers, so be honest with yourself. For the places beyond Google, the business listing tracker is a checklist of 47 Indian and global sites, such as Justdial, IndiaMART and Practo, filtered by your type of business.

Measure what is working: Analytics and Search Console reports

Search Console tells you what happens before someone clicks; Google Analytics tells you what they do after. You want both.

Google Analytics counts visitors to your site, where they came from (Google, Instagram, WhatsApp links) and what they did, such as filling in a form. The standard version is free. On a standard property you can set detailed data to be kept for 2 or 14 months; choose 14 in the settings so you can compare this Diwali with last Diwali. Our Google Analytics guide for beginners covers the setup.

Best for: understanding visitors and enquiries. Limit: it is easy to get lost in, and it does not explain why numbers changed.

Upgrowly's Search Console Insights reads your own Search Console data with read-only permission and turns it into three short lists: your pages that compete with each other for the same search, pages people see in Google but rarely click, and pages losing clicks. Each comes with a plain explanation and what to do next. It needs a free Upgrowly account, and the free limit is five reports a day.

If your customers search in Hindi or Hinglish, the Hinglish keyword finder lists the spellings and everyday phrases they type, such as "dukaan" and "ka rate". It does not give search volumes.

What do free SEO tools not do?

No free tool will tell you exactly how many people search a phrase on Google, or show a full list of who links to your competitors. Those numbers come from large paid databases.

Things the free tools above cannot do well:

  1. Exact Google search volumes. Bing gives its own volumes for free; Ahrefs' free keyword generator gives estimates with limits. Full keyword research needs a paid tool.
  2. Competitor backlinks. Ahrefs Free and Bing show links to your own site only. Seeing a competitor's links needs a paid plan.
  3. Tracking rankings across many searches. Search Console shows average positions for your own site, but not a daily rank chart for chosen keywords. (Upgrowly's paid plans save your Search Console positions once a week for the websites you watch, which gives you a history, but still only for your own sites and not day by day.)
  4. Doing the work. Every tool here finds problems. You or your web designer still have to fix them.

If you need those, our comparison of Upgrowly vs Ahrefs vs Semrush explains when a paid plan is worth it.

A simple free toolkit to start this week

Set up the Google tools once, then spend 30 minutes a week on the findings.

  1. Verify your website in Google Search Console and submit your sitemap.
  2. Claim or check your Google Business Profile, and fix the hours, category and phone number.
  3. Add Google Analytics to your site and set data retention to 14 months.
  4. Run a free website audit and fix the first item on the list.
  5. Test your home page on a phone with PageSpeed Insights.
  6. Import your site into Bing Webmaster Tools from Search Console.
  7. Once a month, check which pages are losing clicks and improve one.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best free SEO tool for a small business?

Google Search Console. It is free, it comes from Google and it shows the real searches that bring people to your site, plus pages Google cannot index. For a local business, Google Business Profile matters just as much. Add an audit tool such as Ahrefs Free or Upgrowly's website audit when you want a list of things to fix on the site.

Are free SEO tools enough, or do I need a paid tool?

For most local businesses in India, free tools are enough to find and fix the problems that matter: an unindexed page, a slow site, a missing title or an incomplete Google listing. Paid tools add keyword volumes, competitor backlinks and daily rank tracking, which matter more to agencies and to businesses competing hard for national searches.

Is Ahrefs free for small businesses?

Partly. As of October 2026, Ahrefs Free costs nothing and includes Site Audit and Site Explorer, but only for websites you have verified you own. It shows up to 1,000 of your backlinks and keywords at once and crawls with 5,000 credits per site a month. Looking up competitors or researching keywords in depth needs a paid plan.

Do I need a website to use these tools?

Not for all of them. Google Business Profile works without a website, as long as you meet customers in person, and the Google listing scorecard only needs your listing. Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools, Analytics, PageSpeed Insights and the website audit all need a website to check.

Which free tool shows Hindi or Hinglish searches?

Search Console shows every search that brought your site up, in whatever language it was typed, though it hides very rare searches. Upgrowly's Hindi and Hinglish search report filters those searches for you, and the Hinglish keyword finder suggests spellings customers use. None of these give total search volumes for a phrase.
