Same details everywhere
Use exactly the same business name, address and phone number on every site โ the same spelling, the same pin code, the same number. Mismatched details confuse Google and customers.
Check your details with the NAP Consistency CheckerBefore you start
- Write down your details once โ name, full address with pin code, phone, website, opening hours, category and a short description โ and copy them from there every time.
- Start with Google, Bing and Apple Maps, then the directories marked Must have. Twenty accurate listings beat sixty messy ones.
- Use a business email you will keep, and note which email each listing uses. Many owners lose access to old listings this way.
- Paid plans on these sites are optional. The free listing is enough to be found โ do not pay for a package because a sales call says so.
- Some sites take days or weeks to approve a listing. Mark it Submitted and check back.
Guide
How to use it
- 1Add a client โ or your own business โ and pick the type of business.
- 2Work down the list from Must have. Open each site, create or claim the listing, and mark it Submitted.
- 3When the listing appears, mark it Live and paste its link. Mark anything with old or wrong details as Needs fixing.
- 4Download the CSV to share progress with the client, and check the details match with the NAP Consistency Checker.
What the results mean
- Listing (or citation)
- Any page on another website that shows your business name, address and phone number โ a directory entry, a map pin or a social profile.
- NAP
- Name, Address, Phone. These should be written exactly the same way everywhere you are listed.
- Claiming a listing
- Many sites already have a page for your business made from public data. Claiming it proves you are the owner so you can correct it.
Common questions
Do directory listings still help with Google?
Yes, for local businesses. Accurate listings on trusted sites help Google trust your address and phone, and they bring customers directly โ many people search on Justdial, Zomato or Practo, not only Google. What matters is accuracy on the important sites, not the number of listings.
Do I need to pay for Justdial, IndiaMART or Sulekha?
No. Each has a free listing, which is enough to be found. Their paid plans add ranking inside their own site and more enquiries; buy one only if the enquiries would be worth the price, never because a sales call says your listing will disappear.
Does Upgrowly submit the listings for me?
No. You open each site and create the listing yourself, so you own the login. We never log in to, read or copy these sites. This page is your checklist and record.
Where is my tracking saved?
In this browser only. It stays when you close the page, but not on another phone or computer, and it goes if you clear your browser data. Download the CSV from time to time as a backup.
Why is my listing marked Needs fixing?
Because you marked it. Use it for any listing with an old address, wrong phone, closed branch or duplicate page, so you remember to correct it or ask the site to merge duplicates.
