Screaming Frog Alternatives (Free, Paid and Cheaper) for 2026

By Neha

The best Screaming Frog alternative depends on what is wrong with Screaming Frog for you. If you want a free desktop crawler with no page cap, try SiteOne Crawler. If you want a crawler in the browser, Seobility's free plan and Ahrefs Free cover small sites. If you want visual reports for a team, look at Sitebulb. If you mainly audit small business sites and send the results to Indian clients, Upgrowly's free audit and white-label reports fit.

We make Upgrowly, so read this with that in mind. Screaming Frog is still the better tool for several jobs, and we say which ones below.

Short answer: A Screaming Frog alternative is any tool that crawls a website the way a search engine does and lists the problems it finds: broken links, redirects, missing titles, duplicate pages and blocked pages. Free options exist for small sites. For large sites, Screaming Frog's paid licence is hard to beat on price.

Why do people look for a Screaming Frog alternative?

Most people switch for one of four reasons: the 500-URL free limit, the desktop setup, the learning curve, or the lack of reports a client can read.

Screaming Frog's SEO Spider is desktop software for Windows, macOS and Linux. Its own page says the free version crawls up to 500 URLs in one crawl and restricts crawl configuration, saving crawls and advanced features such as JavaScript rendering. The paid licence removes the 500-URL limit. Its pricing page says the crawl limit is then unlimited, but that the real maximum depends on the memory and storage on your computer.

That leads to the usual complaints:

  1. The free cap. 500 URLs sounds like a lot, but a small online shop with product, category and filter pages can pass it quickly.
  2. Your laptop does the work. A big crawl needs memory and disk space, and it stops if your laptop sleeps.
  3. It is built for SEO specialists. Hundreds of columns and tabs are powerful once you know them, and confusing until then.
  4. Clients cannot read a crawl export. A clinic owner in Indore will not open a spreadsheet of response codes. You still have to turn it into advice.

Write down which of these is your real problem before you choose. Each alternative below solves a different one.

Free Screaming Frog alternatives

For a site under a few hundred pages, you may not need to pay anyone.

  • SiteOne Crawler. Its website describes a free, open-source (MIT licence) crawler with a desktop app and a command-line version for Windows, macOS and Linux. It checks SEO tags, broken links, redirects, headings, security headers, accessibility and slow pages, and produces an interactive HTML report. This is the closest free match to a desktop crawler without a page cap. It is less polished than Screaming Frog, and you will want some comfort with technical reports.
  • Seobility free plan. Its pricing page lists one project and 100 pages a crawl at no cost, with no time limit. Its FAQ adds that you start each crawl by hand and must wait 7 days before the next one. Good for a monthly check of a small site.
  • Ahrefs Free (Ahrefs Webmaster Tools). Its page gives 5,000 crawl credits per verified project per month, on an unlimited number of verified websites. The catch: you must verify that you own or manage the site, so it cannot audit a prospect's site before a sales call.
  • Semrush free account. The Semrush knowledge base gives free accounts 100 pages a month and 100 pages per audit. Enough to try the tool, not enough for client work.
  • Upgrowly's free checks. The website audit reads up to 25 pages of any website, three audits a day, with no sign-up, and explains each problem in plain words with the fix. The site-wide broken link checker reads up to 25 pages and checks up to 300 links on them for dead ends and redirects.

Paid alternatives: Sitebulb and Seobility

Pay for a cloud or visual crawler when the site is large, the work is regular, or someone other than you needs to read the results.

Sitebulb comes as a desktop app or a cloud version. Its home page says the desktop app crawls up to 500,000 URLs per audit and checks over 300 SEO issues, with customisable PDF reports and JavaScript crawling at no extra cost. The cloud version runs in a browser, goes up to 10 million URLs per audit and lets a team work on the same crawl. There is a 14-day free trial with no card needed. Sitebulb is the alternative people pick when Screaming Frog's data is right but its presentation is not: it explains and prioritises issues visually, which helps when you hand an audit to a developer or a manager.

Seobility Premium costs €59.90 a month (about ₹6,350), or €575.04 a year, according to its pricing page. It covers 7 projects and up to 50,000 pages a crawl, and lets you create PDF reports with your own logo. Prices are listed plus VAT where it applies. This suits a freelancer who wants crawls to run in the cloud, without keeping a laptop awake, and who is happy to explain the findings to clients in their own words.

Neither is a backlink tool or a keyword research tool. If you need those as well, a suite such as Semrush or Ahrefs makes more sense than adding a second crawler. Our comparison of Upgrowly, Ahrefs and Semrush covers what each suite does.

Upgrowly: small-site audits your clients can read

Upgrowly is the alternative to choose when your clients are small businesses and what you really need is a clear audit report, not a full crawl.

Many small business websites have only a few dozen pages, and for those a 25-page free audit covers most or all of the site. Paid plans read more: 50 pages on Starter (₹499 a month), 100 on Pro (₹1,499) and 200 on Agency (₹2,999). Each result says what the problem is, why it matters and what to do, in words a shop owner understands.

Several free tools cover jobs you might use Screaming Frog for:

Then a paid plan turns the audit into a white-label report: 12 report types, your logo and contact details, as a PDF or a share link. Our guide to white-label SEO reports shows what goes in one.

What Upgrowly does not do, plainly:

  • It is not a full crawler. The most it reads is 200 pages, on Agency, and there are no crawl settings, custom extraction or JavaScript rendering options to tune.
  • It has no backlink index, no keyword search volumes and no rank tracker for other people's websites.

When Screaming Frog is still the better choice

For large sites, migrations and anything you need to configure, Screaming Frog's paid licence is often the best value of all.

At £199 a year for one licence (about ₹2,100 a month), it costs less than most cloud tools charge for a month or two. The pricing page shows lower per-licence prices when you buy 5 or more. And because it runs on your own computer, the number of pages you can crawl is limited by your hardware, not by a monthly allowance.

Stay with Screaming Frog, or go back to it, if:

  1. You crawl sites with thousands of pages. Online shops, news sites and directories need a real crawler, and 25 or 100 pages will not do.
  2. You are running a website migration. Comparing old and new addresses page by page needs a full list of URLs. Our website migration checklist explains the steps.
  3. You need custom extraction. Pulling prices, author names or schema from every page is something the browser tools here do not offer.
  4. You already know it well. Your speed with a tool you know is worth more than a nicer interface.

Many freelancers end up with Screaming Frog for deep crawls and a lighter tool for the client-facing report. That is a sensible split, not a failure to choose.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free alternative to Screaming Frog?

Yes. SiteOne Crawler is free and open source with no page cap, Seobility's free plan crawls 100 pages, and Ahrefs Free gives 5,000 crawl credits a month for sites you have verified. Upgrowly's free audit reads 25 pages of any site with no sign-up. Screaming Frog itself is free up to 500 URLs a crawl.

Is there an online Screaming Frog alternative that needs no download?

Yes. Seobility, Ahrefs Free, Semrush, Sitebulb Cloud and Upgrowly all run in the browser, so nothing is installed and your computer does not do the crawling. The trade-off is that each has a monthly or per-crawl page allowance.

How much does Screaming Frog cost in India?

Its pricing page lists £199 a year for one licence, which is about ₹25,300 at ₹127 to the pound in October 2026. Your card or bank will apply its own exchange rate, and tax may be added. There are lower per-licence prices for 5 or more licences.

Is Sitebulb better than Screaming Frog?

Neither is better for everyone. Sitebulb is easier to read and explains issues visually, which helps when others use the results. Screaming Frog is more configurable and cheap for what it does. Sitebulb's 14-day free trial lets you test it on a real client site before deciding.

Can I use a Screaming Frog export with other tools?

Yes. Screaming Frog exports to CSV, and many tools read it. Upgrowly's bulk title and meta description checker accepts a pasted Screaming Frog or Sitebulb export of up to 5,000 rows and flags cut-off, duplicate and missing titles in your browser.
