Bulk Title & Meta Description Checker

Bulk Title & Meta Description Checker is a free tool that checks up to 5,000 page titles and descriptions from a CSV for cut-offs, duplicates and gaps.

  • Free
  • No sign-up
  • Runs in your browser

Checking titles one page at a time works for a five-page site, not for a client with 800 product pages. Paste or upload the export from your crawler or spreadsheet (Screaming Frog, Sitebulb, Ahrefs, Semrush, a Shopify product export or a sheet you made yourself) and the tool finds the address, title and description columns on its own. Every row is measured in characters and in the pixels Google actually uses, and checked for missing text, text copied across pages, titles repeated as descriptions, the brand written twice and text in capitals. You get a plain summary, a table you can filter to just the problems, and your file back with an issues column. It all runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded and there is no limit on how often you use it.

Guide

How to use it

  1. 1Export your pages from a crawler or spreadsheet. In Screaming Frog, the Internal tab with HTML selected works well, or the Page Titles and Meta Description tabs.
  2. 2Paste the rows, headings included, or press Upload and pick the CSV or TSV file.
  3. 3Check the three columns we picked. If one is wrong, choose the right column from the list.
  4. 4Press Check. Read the summary first, then use Show to list the pages with one kind of problem.
  5. 5Download the CSV with issues and share it with whoever edits the pages, or work through it yourself.

What the results mean

Pixel width
Google cuts titles and descriptions by how wide they are on screen, not by how many letters they have. Capitals and wide letters such as W and M use more room, so two titles with the same number of characters can end in different places.
Duplicate title or description
The same text on two or more pages, ignoring capitals and extra spaces. Google cannot tell those pages apart from the result alone, so it often rewrites them or picks one to show.
Crawl export
The spreadsheet a crawler such as Screaming Frog or Sitebulb gives you after reading a website: one row per page, with its address, title, description and much more.

Common questions

Which exports does the tool understand?

Any CSV or TSV with a heading row. It recognises Screaming Frog (Address, Title 1, Meta Description 1), Sitebulb, Ahrefs and Semrush exports, Shopify product exports (SEO Title, SEO Description) and plain sheets with headings such as URL, Title and Description. Rows pasted from Excel or Google Sheets work too. If it picks the wrong column, change it from the list.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read and checked inside your own browser and never sent to Upgrowly or anyone else, which is why there is no daily limit and no sign-up. Closing the tab removes it.

How many rows can I check at once?

Up to 5,000 rows in one go, which covers most small and medium websites. For a bigger site, split the export by folder or section and check each part. Rows for images, PDFs and scripts are left out on their own when the file has a Content Type column.

Why does a 55-character title show as cut off?

Because Google measures width, not letters. A title in capitals, or with many wide letters, fills the 580 pixels Google allows long before 60 characters. The pixel width in the table is our estimate of how Google draws the text, so titles within a few pixels of the limit are worth checking in the Google Result Preview.

Does it fetch my pages to check them?

No. It checks only the text in your file. To read titles and descriptions straight from a live website, use the Duplicate Title & Description Finder, which reads up to 25 pages for you.
