SEO for AC Repair, Plumbers and Electricians in India: A Home Services Guide

By Neha

SEO for AC repair and other home services is the work of making your business show up when someone nearby searches for help at home, such as "AC repair near me" or "plumber in Wakad", on Google Maps and in normal results. For an Indian home services business it comes down to four things: a Google Business Profile set up as a service-area business, one clear page per service, genuine reviews from real jobs, and a phone or WhatsApp number that a customer can reach in one tap.

This guide covers AC repair and servicing, plumbing, electrical work, appliance repair and similar trades. It is written for the owners, and for the freelancers and agencies who take one on as a client: what customers search, how to set up the Google listing without a shop, the website problems that keep coming up, and a first-month checklist.

What do customers search for when they need AC repair or a plumber?

Home service searches are urgent, local and named after the problem. Nobody searches "HVAC solutions". They type what is broken and where they are, often on a hot afternoon or with water on the floor.

These are example phrases to show the pattern, not measured search volumes:

What the customer wantsExample searches
Someone nearby, now"AC repair near me", "plumber near me open now", "electrician near me"
A specific job"AC gas filling cost", "split AC service in Noida", "geyser repair Pune", "tap leakage repair"
A brand"Voltas AC service near me", "LG washing machine repair Thane"
An area"AC repair in Whitefield", "plumber in Salt Lake", "electrician in Gomti Nagar"
Price"AC service charges", "electrician visiting charges"
Hindi-English searches"AC repair wala", "nal wala near me", "bijli mistri"

Three things follow. Each service you offer needs its own clear mention, because customers search by job: gas filling, servicing, installation, leak repair, wiring. Your area names matter, because people search by locality. And brand names matter for appliance work, as long as you only mention brands you really repair and do not suggest you are an authorised service centre if you are not.

The near me keyword finder lays out these shapes for your services, city and areas, and the Hinglish keyword finder adds spellings such as "nal wala" and "bijli mistri". They show you the words; they do not claim to know search volumes.

How should a home services business set up its Google Business Profile?

Set it up as a service-area business: you show the areas you cover and hide your home or godown address. Most AC technicians, plumbers and electricians go to the customer, and Google has rules for exactly this.

Google's guidelines say a service-area business should have one profile for its central office or location, with a service area, and should hide the address if customers are not served there. Google's service-area help page adds the limits: up to 20 service areas, listed by city, PIN code or area name rather than a radius, and an overall area that should not be more than about two hours' drive from your base.

Then get these right:

  1. Name. The real business name. "Cool Air Services" is fine; "Cool Air AC Repair Service Near Me Best Price" breaks the guidelines and can get the listing suspended.
  2. Primary category. The one that matches most of your jobs. Options include air conditioning repair service, plumber, electrician and appliance repair service; type into the category box to see what Google offers today.
  3. Service areas. Only the areas you really cover. A wider area does not mean more calls if you cannot reach them in time.
  4. Hours. If you take emergency calls, make sure the hours say so honestly, and update them for festivals.
  5. Services. List each job by the name customers use: AC servicing, gas filling, installation, uninstallation, PCB repair, tap and pipe repair, wiring, MCB and switchboard work.
  6. Photos. Your van or bike with the name on it, your team in uniform, and before-and-after shots of real work such as a neat wiring job or a fixed outdoor unit.

The Google listing scorecard is a quick self-check that gives you a fix list from your answers; it does not read the listing. If your listing is not appearing at all, start with why a business is not showing on Google Maps.

How do reviews work for AC repair and home services?

Ask after every finished job, while the technician is still there or the same evening, and never pay or reward for reviews. For home services, reviews carry extra weight because the customer is letting a stranger into their home.

Google's review policy does not allow incentives such as a discount on the next service or a free gas top-up in exchange for a review, and it does not allow asking only the customers you expect to be happy. Asking every customer is fine.

A routine that suits a team of technicians:

  1. Give every technician the same review link. The Google review link generator makes a short link and a QR code.
  2. Send it on WhatsApp with the bill. A short thank-you, the job done and the link. The WhatsApp message templates include ready-made messages you can adapt.
  3. Ask the customer to mention the job, if they are happy to, such as "AC servicing" or "geyser repair". Never write the review for them.
  4. Reply to every review, and handle complaints about late arrival or repeat faults calmly, with a number to call.

How should a home services website be structured?

Build one page per main service and, only where you have something real to say, one page per area you cover. Customers search for a job in a place, so the website should make it easy for Google to match both.

A simple structure that works:

  • Home page: what you do, the areas you cover, a tap-to-call number and a WhatsApp button at the top.
  • One page per service: AC servicing, AC gas filling, AC installation, plumbing repairs, electrical work. Each page says what the job involves, how long it usually takes, what affects the price, and whether you charge a visiting fee.
  • Area pages, carefully: a page for an area is only worth having if it says something useful about working there, such as which societies you service regularly or how quickly you can reach it. Copying one page and swapping the area name is what Google's spam policies call doorway abuse. The service area page planner warns you when a plan starts to look like that.
  • About and contact: who runs the business, how long you have been working, your team, and the same name and phone as on Google.

What schema markup should a home services business use?

Use the most specific schema.org type for your trade: HVACBusiness for AC work, Plumber or Electrician. Schema markup is a short block of hidden code that tells search engines, in their own format, what the business is and how to reach it. All three sit under HomeAndConstructionBusiness on schema.org, alongside types such as Locksmith, HousePainter and MovingCompany.

The fields that matter for a service-area business:

  • name and telephone, exactly as on your Google listing, with the phone in +91 format.
  • areaServed, listing the cities or areas you cover, matching your Google service areas.
  • address, your registered business address if you are comfortable publishing it; at least the city, region and PIN code.
  • openingHoursSpecification, with your real working hours.
  • sameAs, linking your Justdial, Facebook and Instagram pages.

The local business schema generator has Electrician and Plumber as business types. For AC repair, generate it as LocalBusiness and change the type to HVACBusiness by hand. It does not have an areaServed field, so add that line yourself if you need it. Our local business schema guide shows where to paste the code.

What are the most common website problems for home service businesses?

Most home service websites lose calls for the same five reasons.

  1. The phone number cannot be tapped. It is in an image or in tiny text at the bottom. Put a tap-to-call button and a WhatsApp button at the top of every page. The WhatsApp link generator makes a link with a message already typed, such as "Hi, my AC is not cooling".
  2. Different numbers everywhere. One number on the website, another on Google and a third on Justdial. Customers and Google both get confused. The NAP consistency checker shows which listings disagree.
  3. One "Services" page listing everything. Give each main job its own page with plain details.
  4. No sign of trust. No photos of the team, no business name on the van, no mention of how long you have worked. People want to know who is coming to their home.
  5. Slow on mobile. Most customers search from their phone, often in a hurry. Check the page with the mobile speed check.

The free website audit reads up to 25 pages of a site and lists problems like these in plain words.

Which listings matter for AC repair and home services in India?

After Google, the listings that matter are Justdial, Sulekha, Bing Places and your social profiles, all with the same name and phone. These mentions of your business on other sites are called citations, and they matter because customers really do find home services there, and because every listing that agrees with Google makes your details more trustworthy.

Marketplaces such as Urban Company send jobs to listed professionals on their own terms; they can be useful, but the customer belongs to the marketplace, not to you. Your own Google listing and website are where you build repeat customers. Our Justdial and IndiaMART listing tips cover the directories most home service businesses use, and the business listing tracker has a home services filter to tick off each site.

A first-month SEO checklist for a home services business

Do these in order. The first week is about the Google listing, because that is where urgent searches end.

WeekWhat to do
Week 1Set up the Google Business Profile as a service-area business: real name, primary category, real service areas, every service listed, photos of team and van. Run the Google listing scorecard.
Week 2Give every technician the review link and start sending it with each bill. Reply to every existing review.
Week 3Fix the website: tap-to-call and WhatsApp at the top, one page per service, the same number everywhere. Add HVACBusiness, Plumber or Electrician schema.
Week 4Match the name and phone on Justdial, Sulekha, Bing Places, Facebook and Instagram. Plan area pages only where you can add real local detail.
Before summerFor AC businesses, publish your servicing and gas filling pages and update photos before the hot months arrive, not in the middle of the rush.

If the website is connected to Google Search Console, the free Google tool that shows which searches your pages appear for, check at the end of the month whether service and area searches are bringing impressions. Our guide on how long SEO takes explains why a month is the start.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get on Google Maps without a shop?

Yes. Google allows service-area businesses that visit customers to create a Business Profile, hide their address and show the areas they serve instead. You still need one real base location for the profile, and you can list up to 20 service areas.

How many areas can I add to my Google Business Profile?

Google's help page allows up to 20 service areas, and says the overall area should not be more than about two hours' drive from your base. List only the areas you can genuinely reach.

Should I make a separate page for every area I serve?

Only for areas where you can write something useful and specific. Dozens of copied pages with the area name swapped are treated by Google as doorway pages, which can hurt the whole site.

Can I mention AC brands like Voltas or LG on my website?

You can say which brands you repair, as long as it is true. Do not call yourself an authorised service centre or use a brand's logo unless the brand has actually authorised you, because it misleads customers.

What is the best schema type for an AC repair business?

Schema.org has an HVACBusiness type for heating, ventilation and air-conditioning work. Use it on your home and contact pages with the same name and phone as your Google listing.
