Broken Link Checker
Broken Link Checker is a free tool that tests up to 40 links on one page of your website and shows which work, which redirect and which lead to an error.
- Free
- No sign-up
- Checks a live page
A broken link sends visitors to an error page and tells Google your site is not looked after. This checker opens one page of your website, collects every link on it โ to your own pages and to other sites โ and tests up to 40 of them, showing which work, which redirect and which are broken. It checks one page at a time because of the limits on our free servers, so start with your home page and your busiest pages.

How to use it
- 1Paste the address of the page you want to check, such as your home page or services page.
- 2Press Check links. We read the page, gather its links and test up to 40 of them at once. It takes about 10 to 20 seconds.
- 3Look at the problems list first. Broken links (404) and server errors are the ones to fix today.
- 4Update or remove each broken link in your website editor, then run the check again to confirm.
What the results mean
- Broken link (404)
- The page the link points to does not exist any more. Visitors land on an error page. Fix the address or remove the link.
- Redirect (301, 302)
- The link still works but goes through a detour. Not urgent, but linking straight to the final address is faster and cleaner.
- Server error (5xx)
- The other website had a problem answering. It might be temporary โ check again later before removing the link.
- Internal and external links
- Internal links go to other pages on your own website. External links go to other websites, such as Instagram or a supplier.
Common questions
Why does it only check 40 links?
We run this tool on free servers that allow a limited number of requests each time. Forty links covers most small business pages. If your page has more, the ones after the first 40 are counted but not tested.
Why does a link say 'refused us' when it works for me?
Some websites refuse automated checkers, even polite ones, and answer with 403 or 429. The link is probably fine โ open it yourself to be sure.
Why were Google and LinkedIn links not checked?
We never send automated requests to Google or LinkedIn, as a matter of policy. Open those links yourself to check them.
Do broken links hurt my Google ranking?
A few broken links will not sink a site, but they waste visitors' time and signal a neglected website. Broken links to your own pages also stop Google finding those pages through your site.
