DLT SMS Template Checker
DLT SMS Template Checker is a free tool that finds what would get your bulk SMS template rejected on the DLT portal, and gives a corrected version to copy.
- Free
- No sign-up
- Runs in your browser
Before a business in India can send bulk SMS, every message template has to be approved on a telecom operator's DLT portal, and templates are rejected for small, avoidable reasons. Paste your template here and this checker finds the usual ones before you submit: variables in the wrong format, a missing brand name, selling words in a service template, shortened links, and characters that make the message cost more.

What the results mean
- DLT
- The system Indian telecom operators use, under TRAI rules, to register every business that sends SMS, along with its sender names and message templates. Messages that do not match an approved template are blocked.
- Variable
- A blank in the template that is filled in for each customer, such as a name or an order number. On DLT it must be written exactly as {#var#}.
- Header or sender ID
- The six-letter name a message arrives from, such as SHRMSW. It is registered to your brand on the same portal.
- Service implicit and service explicit
- Implicit is for updates a customer expects, like an order status or an OTP. Explicit is for offers sent to customers who have given you written consent.
Common questions
Why was my DLT template rejected?
The most common reasons are variables not written as {#var#}, no brand name in the text, two variables side by side, a template that is mostly variables, offer wording in a service template, and links or phone numbers that have not been whitelisted. This checker looks for each of these.
How many characters can one {#var#} hold?
Most operators allow up to 30 characters in a single variable. If a value is longer, such as a full address, use two or more variables with fixed words between them.
Which type should I choose for an OTP?
Unless you are a bank, choose service implicit. The transactional type is kept for OTPs that banks send for their own transactions, and other businesses that pick it are usually rejected.
Does passing this check mean the operator will approve it?
No. Operators review templates by hand and each has its own habits. This tool removes the mechanical mistakes, which are the reason for most rejections, but the operator makes the decision.
