Heading Structure Checker
Heading Structure Checker is a free tool that shows the H1, H2 and H3 headings of any page, so you can spot a missing, duplicate or unclear main heading.

Headings tell a reader and a search engine what a page is about and how it is organised. This tool fetches any page and shows its H1, H2 and H3 structure, so you can see at a glance whether the main heading is missing, duplicated, or doing nothing.

How to use it
- 1Paste the page address and press Check this page.
- 2Look at the H1 first. There should be exactly one, and it should say what the page is about.
- 3Check that the H2s break the page into real sections rather than repeating the H1.
- 4Fix anything missing before worrying about the rest of your on-page SEO.
Common questions
Can a page have more than one H1?
HTML allows it, and Google has said it will not break your site. But when everything is the main heading, nothing is โ and in practice a page with five H1s usually has a muddled structure underneath.
Does the H1 have to match the title tag?
No, and often it should not. The title is written for someone scanning search results; the H1 is written for someone already on the page. They should agree, not be identical.
Do headings still matter for SEO?
Less than people once believed, and more than the sceptics claim. They help Google understand structure, and they help people read โ and the second one matters more.
