Character Counter is a free tool that counts characters, words and reading time, and checks your text against limits for Google titles, X posts and emails.
- Free
- No sign-up
- Runs in your browser
Count characters, words and reading time, and check your text against the limits that matter โ a Google title, a meta description, an X post, a LinkedIn preview, an email subject line. Counting is done by code point, so emoji and Devanagari characters count as one rather than several.

Common questions
Why does my character count differ from another tool?
Most tools count code units, so an emoji counts as two and some Hindi characters count as several. We count what a person would call one character. Platforms differ too โ X counts most emoji as two.
Is anything I paste stored?
No. It never leaves your browser. There is no server involved in this tool at all.
