The description on your Google Business Profile is one of the first things a customer reads when they find you on Google Maps. Enter a few details about your business and get three descriptions in different styles, each within Google's 750-character limit with your business type and city in the first 250 characters โ the part people see before tapping "More". Each one is checked against Google's rules, and you can check your current description too.

Google's rules for descriptions, in plain words
- Up to 750 characters, but only the first 250 or so show before "More" โ put your business type and city there.
- No website links, phone numbers or email addresses. They have their own boxes in the profile.
- No offers, prices, discounts or "sale" words. Use Google posts for those.
- No ALL CAPS, lots of emojis or repeated keywords. Write for people, not for Google.
- Describe your own business only โ no comparing with or naming competitors.
Where to paste it
Search your business name on Google or open Google Maps, tap "Edit profile", then "Business information" and "Description". Paste, save, and Google usually approves it within a few days.
Guide

- 2Add your main services, and optionally your years in business and what makes you different.
- 3Press Generate and read the three options.
- 4Fix anything the checker flags, copy the one you like and paste it into your Google Business Profile.
What the results mean
- Google Business Profile
- Your free listing on Google Search and Google Maps โ the box with your address, hours, photos and reviews. It used to be called Google My Business.
- The first 250 characters
- Google shows only the start of your description until someone taps "More". Most people never tap, so what you do and where must come first.
- Promotional content
- Offers, discounts, prices and words like "sale". Google does not allow these in the description; use Google posts for offers instead.
Common questions
How long can a Google Business description be?
Up to 750 characters, including spaces. Only about the first 250 show before "More", so put your most important information there.
Can I add my phone number or website to the description?
No. Google removes descriptions with links, phone numbers or email addresses. Your profile has separate boxes for these.
Will a better description help me rank higher on Google Maps?
It helps customers understand what you do, which leads to more calls and visits. On its own it is a small ranking signal โ reviews, correct details and photos matter more.
Is my information saved anywhere?
No. The descriptions are written inside your browser; nothing you type is sent to us.
