Guide
How to use it
- 1Enter the monthly SEO fee and your current visitors from Google search each month.
- 2Set the growth you expect over 6 or 12 months. Be cautious โ 50% to 100% in a year is realistic for many small sites.
- 3Fill in your conversion rate, how many enquiries become customers, the average customer value and your margin.
- 4Read the ROI, break-even month and chart, and fix any inputs the tool flags as unrealistic.
- 5Copy the summary sentence into your proposal or share it with your team.
What the results mean
- ROI (return on investment)
- Profit from the extra customers, minus what SEO cost, as a percentage of the cost. 50% means every โน100 spent came back as โน150 of profit.
- Break-even month
- The month when the total extra profit first catches up with the total you have paid for SEO. After that, SEO is making you money.
- Conversion rate
- Out of every 100 visitors, how many call, message or fill in a form. For most small business sites it is between 1% and 5%.
- Gross margin
- The share of each sale you keep after the direct cost of the product or service. We use profit, not revenue, because that is what actually pays the SEO bill.
Common questions
How accurate is this projection?
It is an estimate built on the numbers you enter, and it assumes growth arrives steadily. Real SEO growth is lumpy and depends on competition, so treat it as a planning guide, never a guarantee.
Why does SEO take months to break even?
SEO costs the same each month from the start, but rankings and traffic build up gradually. Early months usually cost more than they earn; later months earn more than they cost.
Can agencies use this in client proposals?
Yes โ that is what the summary sentence is for. Use the clientโs own conversion and customer-value numbers, and keep growth assumptions modest so the proposal stays credible.
