Keyword List Cleaner
Keyword List Cleaner is a free tool that tidies a messy keyword list: it removes duplicates and unwanted words, and shows each removed keyword and why.
- Free
- No sign-up
- Runs in your browser
Keyword lists from Google Keyword Planner, Search Console or a spreadsheet are usually a mess: the same phrase five times in different capitals, words in a different order, and searches you would never want like “free” or “jobs”. Paste the list here and get back a clean one, with every removed keyword listed next to the reason it went.

Guide
How to use it
- 1Paste your keywords, one per line. A CSV export works too — we read the first column and skip the header.
- 2Choose what to tidy. Lower-casing and removing exact duplicates are on already; turn on “Same words, any order” to catch “shoes red” and “red shoe”.
- 3Add negative words for searches you never want, such as free, jobs, salary or course.
- 4Check the removed list to make sure nothing useful went, then copy the clean list or download it as a .txt or .csv file.
What the results mean
- Duplicate
- The same keyword twice, once you ignore capitals and extra spaces. Keeping both only makes your list look bigger than it is.
- Near-duplicate
- The same words in a different order, or with a plural “s” — “dentist jaipur” and “jaipur dentists”. Google usually treats these as one search, so one page covers both.
- Negative word
- A word that means the searcher is not your customer. Someone searching “salon jobs” wants work, not a haircut. Removing these keeps you focused on buyers.
- Word count
- One-word keywords like “shoes” are too broad for a small business to win. Three to five words, like “school shoes in pune”, are easier to rank for and bring readier buyers.
Common questions
Is my keyword list uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything happens inside your browser. The list never leaves your computer, so you can clean client or competitor research safely.
Which keyword should I keep when two are near-duplicates?
We keep the first one in your list and remove the later ones. If your list is sorted by search volume, the first is usually the most searched version, which is the one to use on the page.
What negative words should a local business use?
Common ones are free, jobs, job, salary, vacancy, course, training, pdf, wikipedia and DIY. Add your competitors’ names too if you don’t want to target them.
