The slug is the part of a web address after your domain — the "best-dentist-jaipur" in sharmadental.in/best-dentist-jaipur. A short, readable slug tells customers and Google what the page is about before they click, and looks trustworthy when shared on WhatsApp. Paste one title or a whole list and get clean slugs: lowercase, accents removed, punctuation gone, words joined by hyphens, with optional stop-word removal and a length limit that never cuts a word in half.

How to use it
- 1Paste your page or blog titles, one per line.
- 2Turn on "remove small words" to drop words like the, and, of and to.
- 3Set a maximum length if your platform has one, or to keep addresses short — 60 characters is a good limit.
- 4Copy the slugs and use them when creating each page. Set the slug before you publish, not after.
What the results mean
- Slug
- The readable last part of a page address. It should describe the page in a few words, such as /root-canal-treatment rather than /page?id=4471.
- Hyphens, not underscores
- Google reads a hyphen as a space between words, but may read an underscore as joining them. root-canal is two words to Google; root_canal can be one.
- Stop words
- Small words like the, a, of and in that add length without adding meaning. Removing them keeps slugs short; keep them when the slug reads oddly without them.
- Transliteration
- Turning accented letters into plain ones, so Café becomes cafe. Accented letters turn into codes like %C3%A9 when a link is copied, which looks broken in messages.
Common questions
Should I change the slugs of pages that are already live?
Only with a good reason. Changing a slug changes the address, so every existing link breaks unless you add a 301 redirect from the old address to the new one. For new pages, get the slug right before publishing.
Should my slug include my city or the year?
Include the city if the page is about a local service, such as /dentist-jaipur. Avoid the year unless the page really is about that year — /best-phones-2026 looks out of date next year and has to be redirected.
Can a slug be in Hindi?
Yes. Google understands Devanagari addresses, and this tool keeps them as they are. They do turn into long codes when copied into some apps, so many Indian businesses use English or Hinglish slugs even on Hindi pages.
