What the results mean
- Title tag
- The blue clickable headline Google shows for your page in search results. It is set in your websiteโs code or SEO settings, not the heading on the page itself.
- Pixel width
- Google cuts titles by how wide they are on screen, about 580 pixels, not by a fixed number of letters. Capitals and wide letters like M and W use the space fastest.
- Keyword near the front
- People scan the first few words of each result. If your main keyword is at the start, searchers see at once that your page matches what they typed.
- Selling point
- The one reason to pick you over the next result โ open Sundays, free home visit, 20 yearsโ experience. It turns a plain title into a reason to click.
Common questions
Why not just use AI to write titles?
These formulas are the patterns that work on real results pages, and you can see exactly how each title was built. You stay in control of the wording and nothing is invented about your business.
Should every page have a different title?
Yes. Two pages with the same title compete with each other and Google may show neither. Give each page its own keyword and its own title.
Will Google always show my title exactly?
No. Google sometimes rewrites titles it thinks do not match the page. Titles that fit the width and honestly describe the page are rewritten far less often.
