How to use it
- 1Choose the category you plan to submit: utility, marketing or authentication.
- 2Paste the body of the message, and the header, footer and buttons if you use them.
- 3Add how many people you will send it to, if you want a cost estimate.
- 4Press Check, fix anything in red, and read which category Meta is likely to bill.
What the results mean
- Message template
- A message written in advance and approved by Meta. A business needs one to start a WhatsApp conversation with a customer through the Business API. Replies inside an open chat do not need a template.
- Utility and marketing
- Utility is for updates about something the customer already did, like an order or an appointment. Marketing is anything that promotes or sells. Marketing messages cost several times more.
- Variable
- A blank filled in for each customer, written as a number in double curly brackets, such as {{1}} for the name and {{2}} for the order number.
Common questions
Why was my WhatsApp template rejected?
Usual reasons are variables in the wrong format or out of order, a message that starts or ends with a variable, two variables side by side, a message that is mostly variables, formatting or emoji in the header, and a category that does not match the wording.
Why did Meta change my utility template to marketing?
Because it contained selling language. Words such as offer, discount, sale or shop now, or a button that leads to your shop, make Meta treat the whole message as marketing, even when most of it is an order update. Keep utility templates strictly about the transaction.
How much does a WhatsApp template message cost in India?
Meta sets a price per delivered message for each category and revises it from time to time, and your WhatsApp provider adds its own fee. The estimate here uses Meta's reported India prices and is a guide only. Check your provider's current price list before budgeting.
Does this work for the free WhatsApp Business app?
