What the results mean
- Profit margin
- How much of the selling price you keep as profit. A 25% margin means you keep โน25 from every โน100 the customer pays (before GST).
- Markup
- How much you add on top of your cost. Buying at โน100 and selling at โน150 is a 50% markup, but only a 33% margin.
- GST-inclusive price
- A price that already has GST inside it, like the MRP on a product. To find your own share, the GST part is taken out first.
Common questions
What is the difference between margin and markup?
Markup is worked out on your cost; margin is worked out on your selling price. The same sale always shows a bigger markup than margin, so always check which one someone means.
Should GST be counted in my profit?
No. The GST you collect belongs to the government, so profit and margin are worked out on the price before GST. If you can claim back GST on purchases, leave it out of your cost too.
Why does a small discount need so many extra sales?
A discount comes straight out of your profit, not your price. If you make โน40 on a โน100 sale, 10% off cuts your profit to โน30 โ so you need a third more sales to earn the same.
Which GST rates can I choose?
0%, 3% (gold and jewellery), 5%, 18% and 40% โ the main rates since the GST changes of September 2025. Your accountant can confirm the rate for your product or service.
