Website Technology Checker

Website Technology Checker is a free tool that shows what a site is built with, such as WordPress, Shopify or Wix, and what that means for its SEO.

  • Free
  • No sign-up
  • Checks a live page

Before you can fix a website's SEO, you need to know what it is built on โ€” the advice for WordPress is different from Wix or Shopify. Many shop owners do not know ('my nephew made it'), and agencies need to know before quoting. This checker reads the home page once, looks at the scripts, headers and tags it openly shows, and lists the platform, shop system, website builder, analytics, payment and chat tools it can see, with plain advice on what that means for SEO.

Guide

How to use it

  1. 1Type the website address. You can leave out the https://.
  2. 2Press Check the technology. We read the home page once, as UpgrowlyBot, after checking the site's robots.txt allows it.
  3. 3Read the first line: it tells you the platform the site runs on.
  4. 4Follow the SEO advice for that platform, then look through the full list for anything missing โ€” such as visitor tracking.

What the results mean

Platform (CMS)
The system the website runs on, such as WordPress or Joomla. It decides which SEO tools and plugins you can use.
Website builder
A drag-and-drop service such as Wix, Squarespace or GoDaddy's builder. Easy to use, but you can only change what the builder lets you.
Visitor tracking (analytics)
Tools like Google Analytics or Microsoft Clarity that count visitors and show what they do. Without one you cannot measure whether SEO is working.
Generator tag
A hidden line many platforms add to every page saying what made it, such as 'WordPress 6.5'. It is one of the clues this tool reads.

Common questions

Why does it say it could not find a platform?

Some websites are hand-coded or hide what they use, and some tools only load after a visitor clicks something. We only report what the page openly shows, so we never guess.

Is WordPress or Wix better for SEO?

Both can rank well. WordPress gives more control and plugins like Rank Math; Wix is easier but more limited. What matters more is good titles, useful pages, speed on phones and a complete Google Business Profile.

Does this tool visit other pages of my site?

No. It reads the home page only, once, and only if your robots.txt allows bots. Results are kept for a day, so checking again the same day does not visit your site again.

Can I check a competitor's website?

Yes. Any public website works. It is a quick way to see which platform, payment and chat tools similar businesses use.
