Structured data is the code that tells Google your address, phone number and opening hours exactly, instead of making it guess from the page. For a local business it is one of the highest-value things on a website, and it takes about two minutes to add.

Guide
How to use it
- 1Pick the type that fits closest. LocalBusiness works for anything if nothing else matches.
- 2Fill in the details exactly as they appear on your Google listing โ the two should agree.
- 3Copy the generated code.
- 4Paste it just before the closing </head> tag on your home page, or send it to whoever built the site.
Common questions
Will this make stars appear in Google results?
Not by itself. Stars come from review markup, which has its own rules โ and Google prohibits marking up reviews of your own business on your own site. LocalBusiness markup helps Google understand who you are and where; it is not a shortcut to rich results.
Where exactly does the code go?
Inside the <head> of the page, usually the home page. It can go in the body and still work, but the head is conventional and easier to find later.
What if my details change?
Update the code and the Google listing together. Structured data that disagrees with your listing is worse than none, because it gives Google conflicting information about the same business.
Do I need this if I already have a Google listing?
Yes, they do different jobs. The listing is your presence on Maps; the markup connects your website to that same business. Together they are stronger than either alone.
