Google Ads Headline Checker

Google Ads Headline Checker is a free tool that checks your ad headlines and descriptions against Google's limits and rules before you submit, with a preview.

  • Free
  • No sign-up
  • Runs in your browser

Check your Google Ads text before you submit it. Paste your headlines and descriptions and see each one's length against Google's limits, the common mistakes that get ads rejected, such as exclamation marks in headlines, words in capitals, phone numbers and emoji, whether your keyword appears, and a preview of how the ad can look in search results.

Guide

How to use it

  1. 1Paste your headlines, one per line, and your descriptions, one per line.
  2. 2Add your landing page address, display path and main keyword if you have them.
  3. 3Fix anything marked in red and read the preview.
  4. 4Copy the corrected lines back into Google Ads.

What the results mean

Responsive search ad
The standard Google search ad. You give up to 15 headlines and 4 descriptions and Google tries different combinations.
Display path
The short words shown after your domain in the ad, like yourshop.in/ac-repair/pune. They do not need to be real pages.
Call asset
Google's approved way to show your phone number with a tap-to-call button, instead of putting the number in the text.

Common questions

How many characters can a Google Ads headline have?

30 characters per headline and 90 per description. Wide characters, such as Chinese, Japanese or Korean, count as two. Hindi characters count as one each.

Why was my ad disapproved for capitalisation?

Google does not allow whole words in capitals used for emphasis, like FREE or BEST. Short acronyms such as GST or AC are fine. Write words in normal or title case instead.

Can I put my phone number in the ad?

Not in the headlines or descriptions. Add a call asset in Google Ads instead; it shows your number with a call button and is counted as a call.
